Communication, Trust, and Integrity

Through the years, I’ve also learned the importance of being a good listener… and to never promise anything I cannot deliver. Mayors, city and county governments, school boards, chambers of commerce, farmers, business owners and other Wiregrass leaders will always have my ear.  I will be available, responsive and consistent. Public service is a calling – it’s not simply filling a position.  And it will not be a stepping stone to a higher position.

I’m honored to follow a long line of good people who have served Henry County as its Probate Judge.  In an era of political corruption in our state and nation, our local leaders have represented us with a strong sense of ethics.  The same can be said about the staff I worked with in Henry County, on both the County Commission and the Probate Judge’s office. That’s the only way to serve.

When I campaigned for office in 2012, I heard numerous citizens say that ‘we don’t know enough about what’s going on in county government.’  I realize there will always be a small degree of apathy but we must not lose sight that the majority do care and have a vested interest in how our county, our region, and our state are led. I pledged during the campaign to communicate with our citizens on a regular basis.  We held town hall meetings in each of the five districts but I think what was most appreciated was the column I wrote each month I was in office.  It was entitled, ‘From the Courthouse to Your House.’  Each month we provided updates, personal experiences and shared our victories as well as our shortcomings.  I still have each of those 144 columns in a notebook in my office.

I make that same pledge as I seek to serve in the Alabama House of Representatives.  I will continue to make that report – with a slight name change.  ‘From the Statehouse to Your House’ will be published in local newspapers as well as through email blasts.  My personal cell phone number and email address will be on every piece of campaign material.
